  • Overview

    General Purpose of the Position:

    Therapist is responsible for providing direct client care services on an outpatient basis. Incumbent will be responsible for the care of assigned clients by providing group and individual sessions. Therapist will assist clients in learning how to maintain their early recovery during their transition back into the community.         


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate group therapy sessions 3 evenings per week and documents accordingly in the EMR system.
    • Facilitate process groups, skills groups, and didactic/educational groups.
    • Documents in the medical record system on an ongoing basis.
    • Performs individual therapy with client/family as needed.
    • Provides education to client/family on community resources.
    • Assists client/family with appropriate discharge plans.
    • Completes assessments of new clients as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or other management.

    Performance Objectives

    • Develops individualized treatment plan with each client.
    • Responsible for completing treatment plan reviews, UR reviews, ASAM documentation, group notes, progress notes, transfer notes, and discharge summaries.
    • Work cooperatively with a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Complete documentation and paperwork in a timely manner and ensures client's chart is organized and complete.
    • Take guidance and direction from supervisors.
    • Shows respect and concern to others.
    • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor/director.
    • Ongoing professional development; certifications, licensure, trainings.
    • Development of curriculum, if needed, for different experiential groups.
    • Possess the ability to provide effective treatment at multiple levels of care (ASAM). 
    • Demonstrate effective writing skills; proper grammar and spelling. 


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Excellent computer skills, including Word Office.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Skills in clinical documentation.
    • Able to exhibit a prominent level of confidentiality.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Critical thinking skills are necessary.
    • Skills and knowledge of de-escalation techniques.
    • Excellent time management skills; adherence to documentation timeframes.
    • The work hours are: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm; Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
    • The caseloads range from 8-15 on average.
    • EIOP is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
    • Expected to run groups during primary clinical hours as well.


    Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office
    • Kipu or similar EMR software


    Education and Experience Required:

    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or in a health-related field from an accredited Graduate School.
    • Knowledge and experience with substance abuse population: 1 year
    • Group therapy and clinical experience: 1 year
    • Knowledge of DCF Guidelines
