  • Overview

    General Purpose of the Position

    The Patient Responsibility Coordinator is responsible for documenting and collecting patient responsibility amounts and collection of dollar amounts due to the provider.  




    • Coordinates all interaction and collection attempts with insured member (by their insurance carrier)
    • Documentation and tracking of payments towards patient responsibility amounts due, including but not limited to, deductibles, co-insurance, and out of pocket maximums
    • Prepare, inform, and keep members engaged during the collection process to ensure paid amounts are being forwarded
    • Developing documenting reports
    • Monitoring and maintaining reports
    • Managing uncollected and posted payment amounts
    • Maintaining consistent contact with all patients regarding their financial obligations and payment agreements

    • The employee will be on the phones a majority of the day, coordinating interactions and collection attempts
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus


    Essential Skills:

    • Knowledge of the substance abuse treatment.
    • Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.
    • Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
    • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality laws.
    • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes regarding Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(FDCPA).
    • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
    • Knowledge of Workplace Violence.
    • Knowledge of Substance Abuse facility billing practices and codes.


    Desirable Skills:

    • High School Diploma
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a treatment setting preferred
    • No licenses necessary, however, some certification in chemical dependence preferred
    • Bilingual preferred, not necessary
