Addiction Therapists are responsible for performing a variety of patient care activities as directed by the Program Director.  They will be responsible for the care of assigned patients and will provide group, individual, and family therapies. Addiction Therapists will conduct bio-psychosocial assessments, develop Master Treatment Plans, and will assist in coordinating discharge planning


  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments and discharge summaries
  • Formulate treatment plans and complete treatment plan reviews
  • Facilitate process groups, skills groups, and didactic/educational groups
  • Facilitate individual and family sessions
  • Prepare aftercare plans, provide referrals to meet patients on-going needs
  • Work cooperatively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Complete documentation and paperwork in a timely manner and ensures the patient's chart is organized and complete (including aftercare patients)
  • Have the ability to maintain a caseload 
  • Take guidance and direction from supervisors
  • Shows respect and concern to others
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor/director
  • Ongoing professional development; certifications, licensure, workshops
  • Development of curriculum if needed for different experiential groups
  • Possess the ability to provide effective treatment at multiple levels of care (ASAM) 
  • Demonstrate effective writing skills; proper grammar and spelling 


  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Skills in database management and record keeping.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Critical thinking skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully; produce reports and recommendations based on data.

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Kipu or similar software


Education and Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree in a health related field preferred. Experience may be substituted for a degree or certification
  • Minimum of 1 year in a counseling setting
  • Knowledge of DCF Guidelines
